Why does Russia still want to align itself with washed up commie countries like Venezuela?

Venezuela is far from being a communist country. Socialist yes. Because of US aggressive foreign policy toward Venezuela and other small countries, they seeking Russia's protection from American aggressors. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that nor do I blame Russia.
