Please help me find a powerful alto audition song!?

I'm auditioning for "Fame" and really want the role of Carmen. I want to prove that I can handle her strong part. Any suggestions on audition songs will be great. Something not too high and preferable belt. I was thinking "Take me or leave me" from Rent. Please help!
